Why woven shirts are the best

Woven Shirt

Woven fabric is one of the most preferred materials for shirts and trousers. This is so because woven fabrics have certain characteristics that make them ideal for shirting purposes.

By using different weave techniques, woven fabrics with specific characteristics can be manufactured. This means you can have soft and crisp fabric for office bears. You can have textured fabric for the cold season. There can be twill and denim for workwear and casuals. Woven shirts for both formal and casual occasions are the order of the day. Everybody seems to like them.

WHY WOVEN FABRIC?

When we compare woven fabric with other fabrics such as knitted fabric, we can easily see how the balance tilts in favor of woven fabric as far as shirts and concerned. Woven fabrics can maintain their structure because of the weaving through which they are constructed. Any kind of dress that requires its structure to be maintained during use has to be a woven fabric. Whether it is a casual shirt or pants, woven fabric is the way to go.

Knitted fabric is usually stretchy and cannot maintain its structure or the crease and pleats during use. That’s why woven shirts are liked all over the world. Whether it is a formal shirt or a casual shirt, the material should be woven fabric.

ADVANTAGES OF WOVEN FABRIC

There are distinct advantages of woven fabric that make it suitable for all kinds of dresses including casual shirts.

Woven shirts are known for their sturdiness. They withstand the wear and tear of daily use, washing, and the use of detergent. Unlike other fabrics, they don’t shrink or look crumbled as other shirts made with other materials might look.

Whether it’s a warm summer or chilly winter, the fabric that offers you maximum comfort is usually woven. Your woven shirt has better breathability. That makes it one of the most loved clothes during the summer. Your denim too is woven. The thick and heavy clothes that you wear during winter are also mostly woven. This excludes the woolen clothes that are knitted.

WHAT MAKES WOVEN SHIRTS SO SPECIAL?

Woven shirt fabrics are prepared with different kinds of yarns and weaving techniques. These factors make it possible to have so many kinds of shirts in the market. The variety is achieved through different techniques by which the yarns are weaved.

What is a weave? How weaving takes place? Are there many kinds of weaves? Let’s get these questions out of our way to understand why woven shirt materials are the best. The process and technique of weaving vertical (warp) and horizontal (weft) threads are called the weave.

There are different types of weaving techniques and each has specific advantages. Now, if you want a casual shirt for summer, you need a certain type of fabric. In the same way, you need a thick fabric for the winter. These objectives are achieved by using different weaving techniques.

Let’s have a look at the weaving techniques used for manufacturing woven fabrics for shirts. Here, they are:

POPLIN

This is your standard shirt fabric — soft, cool, breathable, yet crisp. It’s also strong and smooth. However, it lacks texture. That makes it susceptible to wrinkling. Does it sound like the fabric in your everyday shirt? You got it right. This is best used for formal occasions such as office and business meetings. The weaving technique in poplin weave is over and under. That’s the simplest of all weaving techniques.

OXFORD

In this type of weave, an equal number of weft and warp threads are crossed over. Often the warp thread is white and the result is a two-tone effect in the fabric. A 2×2 weave is common for Oxford weave and the result is a more textured fabric. It’s thicker and warm, a good option for cool days. To use it for formal occasions, your shirt should be stitched by a professional tailor. However, you can easily make a casual shirt with this fabric.

PINPOINT OXFORD

To get this result, a minor twist is played on the oxford weave. Instead of two, a single weft is used with two warp threads. You can easily see this draws from both poplin and oxford techniques. The result is a pinpoint look. In terms of texture and use case, it sits between poplin and oxford. You can use it for business woven shirts as well as casual shirts.

TWILL

Fabrics woven by the will technique have a diagonal weave and texture. In this case, two vertical threads are used for warp and weft threads to be woven over and under. This creates a diagonal pattern in the weave. It comes closer to poplin in softness and texture but on the higher side. It doesn’t get wrinkled easily, making maintenance easy. This fabric is a great option for everyday situations from formal to travel.

CHAMBRAY

In this technique, heavier threads are used while the weave is the same as in poplin. Here, colored and white yarns are used for warp and weft respectively. Because of the heavier threads, the fabric is more textured and stronger than other weaves. It is used as workwear and can be a great alternative to denim. This fabric can come in different textures depending on the thickness of the threads.

DENIM

You think denim is for pants only but it can be a good shirting material, too. Denim is made through the twill weave technique. For the two-tone effect, colored and white threads are crossed. Shirting denim is manufactured by using finer threads. Denim shirts are good to be used for workwear and winter casuals.

Apart from these, there are more weave techniques for woven shirt fabrics. These include End-on-End, Royal Oxford, and Herringbone.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Woven shirts are the most popular variety of shirts around the globe. People like them for a variety of reasons. They are available for all occasions such as parties, business events, office, casual, and travel. However, what is most interesting about them is the technique with which each fabric is woven at the factories.
